Audiologists often work with teams with other health care professionals like speech pathologists, physicians, physical therapists, and occupational therapists. Some work with the general patients while others specialize in child care. There are also some who work as researchers or scientists.
To practice, you need four years of undergraduate study and four years of education and professional training before you will earn your doctorate in audiology. For you to be knowledgeable and prepared diagnosing and treating disorders, you need to have at nearly two thousand hours of clinical rotations which are supervised. In all states, audiologists should have a proper license.

Valve is proving its unicorn status amongst game developers once again. This time, by hiring a group of handsome teenagers to work within its secretive walls. Pipeline is the latest experiment from the company famous for resonance cascades, and its focus is prepping high schoolers for a career in game design. The website was created by these interns to answer inquiries teenagers consistently ask Valve; questions pertaining to college choice, areas of study and what it's like to work on video games. In the team's self-created clip, video editor Nathaniel says Pipeline is a test to see how a group of younger employees can adapt to the company's unique organizational structure.
The site's mainly a FAQ right now, but the plan is to build it around user-submitted queries. Pipeline's illustrator Melanie promises future video series and interviews covering different aspects of development including art, sound design and filming. If Newell and co.'s newest employees being barely older than Gordon Freeman's first adventure doesn't make you jealous, this just might: They probably know more about Half-Life 3 than you.

Kristen Vredeveld recently was named an All-American for the fourth year in a row by the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association, and nine Baylor School teammates were honored with her. Vredeveld had All-American times in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events, while fellow 2013 graduates Kimberlee John-Williams (100 butterfly, 100 backstroke) and Hannah Peiffer (100 back) were third-time All-Americans, rising senior Breanna Roman earned the designation for the 100 breaststroke and all four were All-Americans for the 200 medley and 200 free relays. She also was an assistant coach of VI's Intercollegiate Horse Show Association team and a full-time associate professor of Equine Studies. "Sue brings outstanding experience and a superb skill set to the position," Sewanee athletic director Mark Webb said in a school release. "She enjoyed great success as a teacher and a coach at Virginia Intermont, and I am confident she will be well-received by all who participate in our equestrian program." Glover was voted faculty member of the year at VI in 2001. She is a member of the ANRC board of directors, is a Level III certified instructor and test administrator and has been an "A" rated horse show coach for more than a quarter century. "I am honored to have been selected to become a part of a university with a 150-year tradition of academic excellence," she said. "I look forward to working in Sewanee's beautiful, student-focused environment and to leading the equestrian program in its continued success."

Abstract:
L. David Pye, dean and professor of glass science emeritus at Alfred University (AU), delivered the keynote address at the 23rd International Congress on Glass July 1 in Prague, the Czech Republic.
In his address, "Glass and the Nanotechnology Paradigm," Pye explored how some of the major developments in glass science were, in fact, milestones in the advent of the nanotechnology era.
"Nanoscale science and engineering have become arguably the foremost conduit for focusing on how modern materials are viewed, fabrication, characterized and utilized throughout society," said Pye, who received his B.S. degree from Alfred University in 1959, and his Ph.D. from AU in 1968.
"Glass is the quintessential nanotech material," said Pye, who was a founding director of the National Science Foundation's Industry-University Center for Glass Research at Alfred University. Pye was also instrumental in creating the doctoral degree in glass science at AU, making the University the only institution in the United States and only the third in the world to offer the degree.
Long before nanotechnology became a buzzword, glass scientists were working on microcrack theory, amorphous phase separation, photosensitivity, photonucleation, ligand field theory, controlled crystallization, ion-exchange and resolution of glass theory, all processes that occur at the nano-level.
"Our understanding of glass at the nanoscale level has led to some remarkable applications in such diverse fields as energy, medicine, photonics, architecture, transportation and communications," Pye noted, saying his address focused on "the origin and growth of the nanotechnology paradigm," showing its "connection to both historical and modern-day glass science theory, and potential future applications of glass."
Pye retired after a 34-year career at Alfred University as a professor and administrator.
He is past president of the International Commission on Glass (ICG), and the American Ceramic Society. He is an honorary member of the German Society of Glass Technology, honorary fellow of the British Society of Glass Technology and a distinguished life member of the American Ceramic Society.
Pye has received numerous awards, including the ICG's President's Award for Lifetime Achievements and the State University of New York Chancellor's Award for Scholarship and Creativity. He currently serves as founding editor of the International Journal of Applied Glass Science, and is an aspiring stained glass artist.

Say what you want about Lifetime, but they found their groove and they?re sticking to it.?Anna Nicole, which premiered on June 29, is just the most recent installment of the camp-y, overly dramatic made-for-TV movies that Lifetime does so well. We at?HollywoodLife.com?called Lifetime?s story of?Anna Nicole Smith ?crazy, wild fun? and a ?roller coaster ride of drugs, alcohol, and tragedy,? but did the rest of the critics like it as much as we did?

Anna Nicole?isn?t really about anything in the conventional sense, but still manages to be as hard to turn away from and vaguely sleazy as its namesake, which should suit Lifetime?s purposes just fine. If nothing else, the movie appears destined to win some kind of award for most convincing prosthetic cleavage, allowing Agnes Bruckner to play the Playboy and Guess jeans model in her pre- and ?build-on? breast stages, flanked by a perfectly cast Martin Landau and Adam Goldberg as the unlikely men in her life. As guilty pleasures go, this one certainly doesn?t lack for moments at which to hoot.

But?Anna Nicole?manages to breathe new life into the tale of yet another young woman with a misplaced?Marilyn Monroe?obsession that turns into a curse.

The movie, which premieres on Saturday at 8, has nothing to offer. It?s storytelling at its most shallow and unsatisfying. Written by John Rice and Joe Batteer and directed by Mary Harron, Anna Nicole barely conveys the basic facts of Smith?s life, never mind any bigger ideas about her private terrors and our cultural demons. Bruckner is fine as Smith, and her prosthetic breastplate is quite impressive; but the script gives her nothing of substance or with resonance.
So besides one scathing review, everyone seems to be on board with us! We hope you set your DVRs to record?Anna Nicole?or that you can catch a rerun, because it?s definitely worth a viewing.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Brunei (AP) ? The Syrian crisis and National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden were hot-button topics Tuesday at U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry's meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of an Asian summit in Brunei.
Lavrov declined to sum up his more-than-90-minute meeting with Kerry, telling reporters only that their discussion was "excellent." After saying goodbye to Lavrov, Kerry ducked back into the room where he had meetings scheduled with Asian leaders.
Kerry wanted to talk to Lavrov about Russia's support of Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime, which is fighting against opposition forces armed by Western and Arab nations, and the case involving Snowden, which has strained U.S.-Russia relations.
Snowden, who is wanted in the U.S. on three charges of espionage, has been on the run since releasing sensitive NSA documents. He is believed to have been in the Moscow airport's transit zone since his arrival from Hong Kong on June 23. The U.S. has annulled his passport, and Ecuador, where he had hoped to get asylum, has been giving mixed signals about offering him shelter.
Snowden has expanded his requests for asylum to more than 20 countries, including China, according to WikiLeaks, an anti-secrecy group that has adopted Snowden and his cause.
After Snowden applied for political asylum to remain in Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin told reporters in Moscow that Snowden would have to stop leaking U.S. secrets if he wanted asylum there ? and he added that Snowden seemed unwilling to stop publishing leaks of classified material.
Before the meeting, when a reporter asked whether he and Kerry would talk about asylum for Snowden, Lavrov scolded the reporter, saying, "Don't shout at me, please."
Three U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to publicly discuss the Snowden case, have said Washington is trying to persuade Russia to deport Snowden either directly to the United States or to a third country, possibly in eastern Europe, that would then hand him over to U.S. authorities.
Neither the U.S. State Department nor the Russian foreign ministry issued statements detailing the meeting between Kerry and Lavrov.
Irritated by reporters who chased him down the hall after the meeting, Lavrov said, "I am on my way because I missed my lunch" and "You are absolutely crazy. I don't know how you can work like this."

CAIRO (Reuters) - Egypt was locked in a tense standoff on Monday after millions of protesters swarmed into the streets to demand the resignation of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi and militants set the ruling Muslim Brotherhood's headquarters on fire.
Young revolutionaries united with liberal and leftist opposition parties in a massive show of defiance on the first anniversary of Mursi's inauguration on Sunday, chanting "the people demand the fall of the regime".
The demonstrations, which brought half a million people to Cairo's central Tahrir Square and a similar crowd in the second city, Alexandria, were easily the largest since the Arab Spring uprising that ousted Hosni Mubarak in 2011.
After dawn on Monday, young men were still preventing traffic entering Tahrir Square but only hundreds of people remained, some resting under makeshift awnings.
Mursi, the most populous Arab state's first freely elected leader, stayed out of sight throughout the protests but acknowledged through a spokesman that he had made mistakes while adding that he was working to fix them and was open to dialogue.
He showed no sign of quitting.
An aide to Mursi said he was "encouraged" that events had unfolded mostly peacefully : "This is another day of democratic practice that we all cherish," he said in a statement.
He accused the opposition of being vague in its demands and outlined three ways forward: first, parliamentary elections, which he called "the most obvious"; second, national dialogue, which he said opponents had repeatedly rejected; and third, early presidential elections, as demanded by protesters.
But that, he said, "simply destroys our democracy".
The massive protests showed that the ruling Muslim Brotherhood has not only alienated liberals and secularists by seeking to entrench Islamic rule but has also angered millions of ordinary Egyptians with economic mismanagement.
Tourism and investment have dried up, inflation is rampant and fuel supplies are running short, with power cuts lengthening in the summer heat.
Dozens of militants attacked the Brotherhood's national headquarters in Cairo with shotguns, petrol bombs and rocks, setting it on fire, and targeted offices of its political party across the country.
There was no sign of police or fire service protection for the Brotherhood's head office, where witnesses said guards inside the building fired on the attackers. Two people died and 11 were injured in that clash, hospital sources said.
Protest organizers called on Egyptians to keep occupying central squares across the country in a campaign of peaceful civil disobedience until Mursi quits.
Tens of thousands of demonstrators stayed in Tahrir Square long after midnight, appearing to heed the call for a sit-in. But as the working day began, only hundreds remained.
SPOTLIGHT ON ARMY
If protesters maintain their camps, however, and return in the evenings, the spotlight will be on the army. It displayed its neutrality on Sunday, making goodwill gestures to the protesters after urging feuding politicians last week to cooperate to solve the nation's problems.
Some uniformed policemen marched among protesters in Cairo and Alexandria, chanting "the police and the people are one", and several senior officers addressed the Tahrir Square crowd.
That cast doubt on whether Mursi could rely on the security forces to clear the streets if he gave the order.
Diplomats said the army, which ruled uneasily during the transition from Mubarak's fall to Mursi's election, had signaled it was deeply reluctant to step in again, unless violence got out of hand and national security was at stake.
While the main demonstrations were peaceful and festive in atmosphere, seven people were shot dead in clashes in the central cities of Assiut, Beni Suef and Fayoum and outside the Brotherhood's Cairo headquarters. The Health Ministry said 613 people were wounded in street fighting around the country.
Women's activists said at least 43 women, including a foreign journalist, suffered organized sexual assaults by gangs of men during the Tahrir Square rally.
The opposition National Salvation Front coalition of liberal, secular and left-wing parties declared victory, saying the masses had "confirmed the downfall of the regime of Mohamed Mursi and the Muslim Brotherhood".
NEXT MOVE UNCLEAR
Opposition leaders, who have seen previous protest waves fizzle after a few days in December and January, were to meet on Monday afternoon to plot their next move.
Influential Qatar-based Muslim cleric Sheikh Youssef Qaradawi, visiting Cairo, appealed to fellow Egyptians to show more patience with Mursi, while saying the president had made errors.
"How long has Mohamed Mursi ruled? One year," Qaradawi said in a television address. "Is one year enough to solve the problems of 60 years? That's impossible ... We must give the man a chance and help him. Everyone must cooperate."
The United States and the European Union have urged Mursi to share power with the opposition, saying only a national consensus can help Egypt overcome a severe economic crisis and build democratic institutions.
Mursi and his Brotherhood supporters have so far rebuffed such pressure, arguing that he has democratic legitimacy and the opposition is merely seeking to achieve on the streets what it failed to secure at the ballot box.

July 1, 2013 ? Economists argue that markets usually reflect rational behavior -- that is, the dominant players in a market, such as the hedge-fund managers who make billions of dollars' worth of trades, almost always make well-informed and objective decisions. Psychologists, on the other hand, say that markets are not immune from human irrationality, whether that irrationality is due to optimism, fear, greed, or other forces.
Now, a new analysis published the week of July 1 in the online issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) supports the latter case, showing that markets are indeed susceptible to psychological phenomena. "There's this tug-of-war between economics and psychology, and in this round, psychology wins," says Colin Camerer, the Robert Kirby Professor of Behavioral Economics at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and the corresponding author of the paper.
Indeed, it is difficult to claim that markets are immune to apparent irrationality in human behavior. "The recent financial crisis really has shaken a lot of people's faith," Camerer says. Despite the faith of many that markets would organize allocations of capital in ways that are efficient, he notes, the government still had to bail out banks, and millions of people lost their homes.
In their analysis, the researchers studied an effect called partition dependence, in which breaking down -- or partitioning -- the possible outcomes of an event in great detail makes people think that those outcomes are more likely to happen. The reason, psychologists say, is that providing specific scenarios makes them more explicit in people's minds. "Whatever we're thinking about, seems more likely," Camerer explains.
For example, if you are asked to predict the next presidential election, you may say that a Democrat has a 50/50 chance of winning and a Republican has a 50/50 chance of winning. But if you are asked about the odds that a particular candidate from each party might win -- for example, Hillary Clinton versus Chris Christie -- you are likely to envision one of them in the White House, causing you to overestimate his or her odds.
The researchers looked for this bias in a variety of prediction markets, in which people bet on future events. In these markets, participants buy and sell claims on specific outcomes, and the prices of those claims -- as set by the market -- reflect people's beliefs about how likely it is that each of those outcomes will happen. Say, for example, that the price for a claim that the Miami Heat will win 16 games during the NBA playoffs is $6.50 for a $10 return. That means that, in the collective judgment of the traders, Miami has a 65 percent chance of winning 16 games.
The researchers created two prediction markets via laboratory experiments and studied two others in the real world. In one lab experiment, which took place in 2006, volunteers traded claims on how many games an NBA team would win during the 2006 playoffs and how many goals a team would score in the 2006 World Cup. The volunteers traded claims on 16 teams each for the NBA playoffs and the World Cup.
In the basketball case, one group of volunteers was asked to bet on whether the Miami Heat would win 4-7 playoff games, 8-11 games, or some other range. Another group was given a range of 4-11 games, which combined the two intervals offered to the first group. Then, the volunteers traded claims on each of the intervals within their respective groups. As with all prediction markets, the price of a traded claim reflected the traders' estimations of whether the total number of games won by the Heat would fall within a particular range.
Economic theory says that the first group's perceived probability of the Heat winning 4-7 games and its perceived probability of winning 8-11 games should add up to a total close to the second group's perceived probability of the team winning 4-11 games. But when they added the numbers up, the researchers found instead that the first group thought the likelihood of the team winning 4-7 or 8-11 games higher than did the second group, which was asked about the probability of them winning 4-11 games. All of this suggests that framing the possible outcomes in terms of more specific intervals caused people to think that those outcomes were more likely.
The researchers observed similar results in a second, similar lab experiment, and in two studies of natural markets -- one involving a series of 153 prediction markets run by Deutsche Bank and Goldman Sachs, and another involving long-shot horses in horse races.
People tend to bet more money on a long-shot horse, because of its higher potential payoff, and they also tend to overestimate the chance that such a horse will win. Statistically, however, a horse's chance of winning a particular race is the same regardless of how many other horses it's racing against -- a horse who habitually wins just five percent of the time will continue to do so whether it is racing against fields of 5 or of 11. But when the researchers looked at horse-race data from 1992 through 2001 -- a total of 6.3 million starts -- they found that bettors were subject to the partition bias, believing that long-shot horses had higher odds of winning when they were racing against fewer horses.
While partition dependence has been looked at in the past in specific lab experiments, it hadn't been studied in prediction markets, Camerer says. What makes this particular analysis powerful is that the researchers observed evidence for this phenomenon in a wide range of studies -- short, well-controlled laboratory experiments; markets involving intelligent, well-informed traders at major financial institutions; and nine years of horse-racing data.

BRUSSELS/BERLIN, June 30 (Reuters) - The European Union has demanded that the United States explain a report in a German magazine that Washington is spying on the group, using unusually strong language to confront its closest trading partner over its alleged surveillance activities.
A spokeswoman for the European Commission said on Sunday the EU contacted U.S. authorities in Washington and Brussels about a report in Der Spiegel magazine that the U.S. secret service had tapped EU offices in Washington and Brussels and at the United Nations.
"We have immediately been in contact with the U.S. authorities in Washington D.C. and in Brussels and have confronted them with the press reports," the spokeswoman said.
"They have told us they are checking on the accuracy of the information released yesterday and will come back to us," she added in a statement.
Der Spiegel reported on its website on Saturday that the National Security Agency had bugged EU offices and gained access to EU internal computer networks in the latest revelation of alleged U.S. spying that has prompted outrage from EU politicians.
The magazine followed up on Sunday with a report that the U.S. secret service taps half a billion phone calls, emails and text messages in Germany in a typical month and has classed its biggest European ally as a target similar to China.
Revelations about the alleged U.S. spying programme, which became public through documents taken by fugitive former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, have raised a furore in the United States and abroad over the balance between privacy rights and national security.
The extent to which Washington's EU allies are being monitored has emerged as an issue of particular concern.
"If the media reports are correct, this brings to memory actions among enemies during the Cold War. It goes beyond any imagination that our friends in the United States view the Europeans as enemies," said German Justice Minister Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger.
"If it is true that EU representations in Brussels and Washington were indeed tapped by the American secret service, it can hardly be explained with the argument of fighting terrorism," she said in a statement.
GERMANY TAPPED
Germans are particularly sensitive about government monitoring, having lived through the Stasi secret police in the former communist East Germany and with lingering memories of the Gestapo of Hitler's Nazi regime.
On Saturday, Martin Schulz, president of the EU Parliament and also a German, said that if the report was correct, it would have a "severe impact" on relations between the EU and the United States.
"On behalf of the European Parliament, I demand full clarification and require further information speedily from the U.S. authorities with regard to these allegations," he said in an emailed statement.
Some policymakers said talks for a free trade agreement between Washington and the EU should be put on ice until further clarification from the United States.
"Partners do not spy on each other," the European commissioner for justice and fundamental rights, Viviane Reding, said at a public event in Luxembourg on Sunday.
"We cannot negotiate over a big transatlantic market if there is the slightest doubt that our partners are carrying out spying activities on the offices of our negotiators," Reding said in comments passed on to reporters by her spokeswoman.
The European Parliament's foreign affairs committee head Elmar Brok, from Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democrats. echoed those views.
"The spying has taken on dimensions that I would never have thought possible from a democratic state," he told Der Spiegel.

Paul posted a message on his Twitter account Monday morning, saying "I'M IN!!!" #CLIPPERNATION
Paul led the Clippers to their first Pacific Division title last season and his decision to stay is the second big victory for the longtime losers in this offseason, following the signing of Doc Rivers as their new coach.
Paul can earn about $108 million over five years with the Clippers. The deal can't be signed until July 10, after next season's salary cap is set.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist has helped turn around the Clippers franchise in two seasons since coming in a trade from the New Orleans Hornets. They made the playoffs in both seasons, advancing to the second round in 2012, and went 56-26 this season, the best record in their history.
Paul averaged 16.9 points, 9.7 assists and an NBA-best 2.4 steals per game. He was the Western Conference player of the month in December, when the Clippers went 16-0.
Paul spent his first six seasons with the Hornets before he was dealt to the Clippers, shortly after the NBA, then serving as owners of the Hornets, stopped a trade that would have sent him instead to the Lakers.
That decision has paid off big for the Clippers, long the second-class citizens in Los Angeles but the team that played a much more exciting style and had much better results than the Lakers last season.
They fired Vinny Del Negro even after their 2012-13 success but landed one of the NBA's marquee coaches in Rivers, who led the Boston Celtics to the 2008 NBA championship.
Now they are holding onto perhaps the league's best point guard.
Paul missed 12 games with a bruised right kneecap and played a career-low 33.4 minutes per game, and still was second in the league in assists and first in assist-to-turnover ratio. He was MVP of the All-Star game and finished fourth in voting for the regular-season award.
The Wake Forest product is also one of the league's most popular players, serving as an executive on the NBA players' association.

Sometimes you may have a great idea for a comic, but don?t have the funds to afford an artist to make your vision come to life. Why not do it yourself? Everyone has their own style, and while it may not resemble a Samnee or a Deodato, if you do everything yourself you can tell whatever stories you wish. However doing everything can also be very time consuming, so some creators focus on one or the other to make way for multiple projects. The creators in this category show some true talent in taking on both writer and artist duties, and deserve tremendous amounts of praise because of it. Today I?ll be focusing on the Best Writer/Artist category. If you need a reminder of what?s been nominated, you can find the entire list right here, and see what I chose last time right here.
Keep in mind I cannot vote for who wins (nor can you, probably), as per the rules. However, that?s not keeping me from being vocal regardless!

Charles Burns, The Hive (Pantheon)
Taking place in past, present, and in dreams, Burns overwhelms the senses with his macabre characters and settings, making you feel uncomfortable yet intrigued at the same time. The imagery and radicalized shading is Burns? signature look, and while it?s been a few years since X?ed Out it feels nice succumbing to his madness once more.
Gilbert Hernandez, Love and Rockets New Stories, vol. 5 (Fantagraphics)
Gilbert really loves his women, and it shows when he?s illustrating them in all their exaggerated glory. While certain body parts for his characters are slightly more highlighted than others, Hernandez still maintains a crisp, clean look while highlighting a fun story simultaneously. He makes black and white look good on anything.
Jaime Hernandez, Love and Rockets New Stories, vol. 5 (Fantagraphics)
Like his brother, Jaime has his own unique style (although both Jaime and Gilbert?s illustrations transition flawlessly into one another). Jaime loves his women figures too, only he remains a little more grounded in the execution. The story Jaime tells is a tad more serious as well, with humor sprinkled about at just the right times. Jaime is an ally/master of the black and whites as well.
Luke Pearson, Hilda and the Midnight Giant, Everything We Miss (Nobrow)
The world Pearson has created is an exciting and magical one, reminding me slightly of Hayao Miyazaki with bits of Brandon Graham. The story in Hilda is just as captivating as the art, and Pearson does a wonderful job blending both together flawlessly. There?s still familiar elements mixed with the magic, but bottom line being I strive to get lost in this world again. Pearson provides a product that can be enjoyed equally by young readers and longtime ones.
C. Tyler, You?ll Never Know, Book 3: A Soldier?s Heart (Fantagraphics)
It?s one thing to be an artist, but another to illustrate your own memoirs. C. Tyler finds that perfect balance and does a superb job illustrating the journey she went through in You?ll Never Know. The settings are beautiful, the characters unique, and the dream sequences far out. The format alone of how she transitions the panels and pages is worthy of the nomination.
Chris Ware, Building Stories (Pantheon)
Chris Ware looked at the format for the traditional graphic novel, said ?fuck it,? and went about making his own enthralling creation like the mad scientist he is. Everything from the presentation to the fourteen assorted stories on the inside was refreshing, for it?s like a Choose Your Own Adventure for comic book fans who are so used to linear storytelling. Following an unnamed woman with one leg doesn?t seem like much to write home about, but Ware is able to make you care deeply for her no matter what story you read first.
Who I think should win:
Chris Ware, Building Stories (Pantheon)
A work ten years in the making, it definitely shows that Chris Ware worked tirelessly on it. No matter what parcel you were reading (14 different stories on a variety of formats), his art continuously ravished your eyes and moved on to an all-out assault on the rest of your senses. To tell a story in the format he presented and still have it all make sense no matter where you started takes immense talent, something Ware has in spades obviously.
I think this is going to be Ware?s year, as I predict he takes home multiple Eisners for Building Stories. Now if only he could design an aesthetically pleasing awards shelf to display them all.
Who I think could win:
Charles Burns, The Hive (Pantheon)
Whether you love The Hive or hate it, you can?t deny that Burns illustrates a damn fine story, one that you would kill to have original art of. While the story is sometimes hard to follow, it?s intentional to keep you guessing until the third book (which comes out in a few years) for Burns? has a master plan he?s bringing to fruition flawlessly.
The fact that it?s in a slightly oversized format is the cherry on top.
Who I think should have been nominated:
Jeff Lemire, Lost Dogs, The Underwater Welder (Top Shelf), Animal Man (DC), Sweet Tooth (DC/Vertigo).
Jeff Lemire goes and has a tremendous 2012, and doesn?t get one nomination in any of the Eisner categories. Something is tremendously awry here. This category in particular was made for him to dominate.

Gay Pride weekend festivities are rarely understated,? but after the Supreme Court?s decisions last week, marches and rallies all over the country were expected to be especially celebratory this year.
Pride weekend generally occurs at the end of June to commemorate the Stonewall Riots, in which the gay community exploded against a police raid at the Stonewall Inn, in New York City on June 28, 1969.
After the Supreme Court?s decision on Wednesday to overturn DOMA, granting legally married same-sex couples the same federal benefits as their heterosexual counterparts, and to let "Prop. 8" die, resuming the legalization of gay marriage in California, the festive atmosphere surrounding Pride events has been ramped up several notches.
While many of the largest and most notable Pride rallies and parties occur in New York, San Francisco and Chicago, smaller but equally colorful celebrations were set to take place in Seattle, St. Louis, Cleveland and other cities throughout the U.S. and around the globe.
Although the first gay pride march was in New York, in forty-plus years, pride events have spread throughout the world. The Paris pride march also had a duel celebration purpose on Saturday, marking the one month anniversary of France?s first gay marriage. Simultaneously, LGBT groups and supporters marched in Spain, Portugal and Mexico. Canada, Sweden, and Finland held parades on Sunday.

Appropriately leading the way in New York City, was Edith Windsor ? the woman who championed the fight against DOMA.
Signs along the route read, "Thank you, Edie" ? celebrating Windsor for her successful challenge of a provision of DOMA that defined marriage as between a man and a woman.
"If somebody had told me 15 years ago that I would be the marshal of New York City's gay pride parade in 2013, at the age of 84, I wouldn't have believed it," said Windsor.
Singer Harry Belafonte and activist Earl Fowlkes, both equality and civil rights advocates, wijoin her in leading the two-mile march down New York's famed Fifth Avenue from Midtown to the historic Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village.
?LGBT rights are expanding across the country and these individuals embody the soul of a movement far from over,? organizers NYC Pride said in statement.
The NYPD this year increased plain-clothes patrol to deal with problems that may occur before and after the parade, officials said. The additional surveillance is in response not only to expected record-breaking crowds but also the deadly shooting of a gay man that took place just a month ago in the area that Pride-goers are set to congregate.
Progressive songstress Lady Gaga spoke out against gay violence at New York?s kickoff rally on Friday, declaring "The violence that has taken place towards LGBTs in the past months is unacceptable here and anywhere ? enough is enough," according to NBCNewyork.
While the parade marks the peak of excitement in New York, marchers may have trouble trumping the grandeur of her surprise appearance and performance of her pride-centric ?Star-Spangled Banner? including the line, ?Oh, say does that flag of pride yet wave."
Although New York's Stonewall sparked gay pride marches, San Francisco is equally famous for its gay community, and also boasts a large and colorful pride weekend. According to NBCBayarea, San Francisco?s police chief expects over 1.5 million people to attend the parade.
"Even though the World Series was huge, this could quite possibly be larger in light of the decision that just came down from the Supreme Court ? but it will be just as happy as the World Series," Police Chief Greg Suhr said. Police presence has also been bolstered in San Francisco to keep musical performances, rallies and the parade enjoyable and safe.
Meanwhile, Chicagopride.com announced that their pride weekend will also include performances, over 200 floats and of course, marchers.
According to the Chicago Transit Authority, the parade route was expanded to include more streets last year and maintains that distance this year to accommodate the greater amount of people who wish to display their pride in Chi town.
According to NBCChicago, the gay rights advocates of their city could use a joyous occasion after Illinois could not garner enough support from the house to legalize gay marriage in the state, even after a petition on Change.org and a plea from President Barack Obama to the lawmakers of his home state.
