Yes it is a standard practice with Meritage and some other builders. ?It's not a contract. ?It's a release of liability in case the inspector got hurt while inspecting etc. ?They do require that the inspector carry a certain amount of insurance.

I have done many many transactions with Meritage and a couple of inspectors only carry the minimum so they refuse to sign it obviously but there are plenty of others that carry what Meritage requires.

I am sure your Realtor can give you a list of inspectors.
